ABOUT PROJECT

Worldwide it has been noticed an orientation of production and consumption of fuels and chemical compounds, towards of low pollution products and those from renewable resources. The thematic approached by the project goes with the new trends of replacing raw materials from unrenewable resources as fossil fuels (ex. oil), with raw materials from renewable resources (ex. fat matters)

The project works will be carried on three directions: works in industrial research and experimental development, in order to elaborate three kind of products, dissemination on large scale of research results, and protection by patents of some original elements, and activities in conection with project management.

OBJECTIVES

The project is structured in 5 specific obiectives:
  1. Elaboration of synthesis and purification technologies by methanolisis of triglycerides from fats;
  2. Elaboration of synthesis and purification technologies for mono-glycerides of fatty acids, by the methanolisis of triglyceridesfrom fats;
  3. Elaboration of purification technologies for raw glycerin resulted as a by-product from methanolisis of triglycerides from fats;
  4. Large scale dissemination of the research results;
  5. The project management.

CONSORTIUM

The project will be accomplished with in a consortium of 4 partners:
  1. National Institute for Research and Development in Chemistry and Petrochemistry - ICECHIM-Bucuresti - will be responsable for:
    • Making a model for methanolisis of triglycerides from fat matters;
    • Elaboration of technological process for the separation and purification of biodiesel;
    • Implementation of physical-chemical methods for biodiesel caracterization .
  2. National Institute for Research and Development in Chemistry and Pharmaceutics - will provide:
    • The model and the technology process for separation and purification of mo-noglycerides of fat acides.
  3. S. C. Institute for Research of Auxiliary Organic Products S. A. Medias - will concept:
    • The model and the technology process for separation and purification of raw glycerine obtained from transesterification procesis of triglycerides.
  4. Institute of Physical-Chemistry "Ilie Murgulescu" - Bucuresti - will elaborate:
    • Phisical-Chemical methods for characterization of glycerin and monogly-cerides of fat acides.

RESULTS

Results that are estimate to be obtained:
  • The thematic approached by the project goes with the new trends of repla-cing raw materials from unrenewable sources as fossil fuels (ex. oil), with raw materials from renewable resources (ex. fat matters), according with 2003/30/ EC UE Directive and with HG 1844/2005, which forecast to replace min 5,75% of fuels used in transportation with biofuels. Romania has the task to replace 2% of classic fuels with biofuels. Biodiesel – biofuel alternative to diesel fuel, based on methyl esters of fatty acids, in Europe is ranked on the first place among biofuels.
  • The research project will be focused towards fabrication of three large scale products, with economic, social and environmental impact: biodiesel of 2-nd generation, with physical and chemical characteristics according with EN 14214 standard, monoglycerides of fatty acids and high purity glycerine.
  • Products belong to green chemistry field, and technologies will acomplish requests for clean technologies, with a minimum impact upon environment, without water or gaseous waste. More than that, it will process waste fats, as waste resulted in fabrication of margarine, and from restaurants or fast-food units, by chemical processing, and obtaining valuable products.

Dissemination on large scale of research results
  • There will be presented scientific communications at 2 inter-national congresses in fields specific to the project;
  • It will be issued at OSIM an invention patent application, in order to protect the original elaborated technologies;
  • An article will be published in a chemical review
  • There will be ensured the participation with own inventions, at consacrated international invention show- meeting, in order to identify new potential costumers.
